The Concert Band at Fort Richmond Collegiate is made up of students in Grade 10 (or those in other grades who would like to enter the program playing more accessible music than Symphonic Band) playing the full range of concert band instruments (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion).  The Concert Band is a collaborative group in which individual and collective expression are priorities as we strive for excellence and develop a strong community.  Through instrumental music, we get to know more about ourselves and each other, and gain valuable insight that leads a strong, respectful and caring community of musicians.

Typically, the Concert Band students participate in many concerts and festivals throughout the year and participate in an optional trip which may include entry in a festival, clinics and performances.  Additionally, students in the Concert Band have a multitude of opportunities throughout the year for community performances, volunteer opportunities and mentorship with the youth in our community.

Although prior instrumental music experience is certainly an asset to be a part of the Concert Band, the band program at FRC welcomes beginner students at all levels.  Students will receive remedial instruction until they are ready for the large group music, at which point they will be a part of the larger ensemble.  Interested students with no prior experience are asked to chat with Mrs. Ferguson to discuss how to try out various instruments in the concert band to find the best fit.

Band 20G/ Band (.5) 21G

Is a class which meets for full band rehearsals five times per week. The band plays a variety of musical styles in a number of different performing experiences, including concerts, festivals and contests. Band 20G students are eligible to audition for membership in the FRC Jazz Bands. It is desirable that a Band 20G student has 2-3 years of playing experience, although this is not a course requirement
